Darkroom Workshop 1: Photograms
An introduction to photo-image making, this workshop is perfect for someone who has never picked up a camera.
A photogram is a photographic image made without a camera. The process involves placing objects onto photographic paper which is then exposed to light. The areas of the paper covered by the objects are hidden from the light and appear white (or shades of grey) while the exposed background is turned black.
Participants will learn how to use photo enlargers to produce their final prints on 8’’ x 10’’ paper, developed in the darkroom. The workshop will encourage the exploration of composition, spatial depth and tonal variations through the placed objects.
All materials will be supplied, though participants are welcome to bring along their own objects to experiment with composition and transparency effects.
Tutors
